Beware of Athlete’s Foot

Athlete’s Foot (Tinea pedis) is a widespread skin infection caused by a fungus. It mostly affects the skin between the toes, resulting in flaky, cracked, red and sore.

Athlete’s Foot (Tinea pedis) is a widespread skin infection caused by a fungus. It mostly affects the skin between the toes, resulting in flaky, cracked, red and sore. The worst case could be making the skin very sore and possibly to bleed. If the symptom is not treated, it can spread to the toenails and around the areas of the foot. Currently, everyone has several sorts of fungi under their skin, which are harmless and cause no problems but due to certain conditions such as warm, moist and dark areas, these fungi can multiple and cause infections. Athlete's foot is contagious and adults are more affected than children with men getting treated more than women.


There are lots of things you can do personally to avoid Athlete's foot such as:

  • Wash your feet on a daily basis

  • Dry the toes thoroughly including in between the toe areas

  • Avoiding letting your feet get sweaty

  • Wear clean socks

  • Don't share towels

  • Wear footwear when visiting public pools and shower areas

Daktarin contain the active ingredient 'Miconazole' which kills the fungus and would be continuously used until the skin goes back to normal plus a further two weeks. There's also the spray called Daktarin Aktive Athelet's Foot Spray Powder 100g which works by just spraying on the affected area. Another well know brand is called Canesten Cream with the active ingredient 'Clotrimazole' which like Miconazole work by killing the fungus and need to be applied until the skin seems to be back to normal and then for a further two weeks to eradicate all the remaining fungal spores. the Canesten Cream only comes in a cream form but with different strengths and sizes.

The final product from is the Lamisil brand, both in spray and cream. This particular brand contains the active ingredient 'Terbinafine' which normally require only 1 to 2 weeks of treatment.
